Introductory Club Ride

Where there is sufficient demand for, and leaders available, we run an introductory club ride. This is the opportunity for new members or prospective new members to sample cycling with the club, although all members are welcome to come on the ride. So that we can ensure that there are enough leaders for this ride, we do ask that you sign up for the ride on the club forum.

The route and meeting point will be posted on the club forum a week before each ride.

Should I come on this ride?

Yes. All members, new and old, are welcome to come on this ride. This ride is a mandatory requirement to join the official weekend rides. The intro ride is still mandatory regardless of cycling experience. The ride aims to show new members how the Chasers ride in groups and the attitude we adopt on the road.

What is the Standard?

This ride is for all riders. It is a social ride first and foremost - an opportunity for you to meet some other people in the Club and to get some experience of riding in a group. There will be a briefing to explain the principles of group riding and how to ride in a group safely. The ride will then provide the opportunity to put those principles into practice. There will always be an experienced rider leading each group.

Depending on numbers, we may run more than one group, but the groups will always ride at the pace of the slowest rider in the group and we won't leave you behind. That said, the ride will be around 30-50 Km and we do ask that you have the base level of fitness required for a ride of this distance.

What kit do I need?

Please see the Novice Cyclists page for detailed information of the kit you will need. Please note that all riders must wear a cycle helmet for all Club rides. Any riders attending without a helmet, will not be allowed to join the ride.

Coffee and Cake?

There will be the opportunity to stop for coffee and cake and a chat with the other people who have been on the ride.

Any other questions?

Hopefully we have covered everything here and on other pages, but if there is anything we have missed, please do get in touch by emailing us or posting on the forum.
